Conservative Budget Too Little Too Late

January 26, 2009 Press Release

NDP House Leader Davies expresses lack of confidence in Conservative Government.

OTTAWA – The Conservatives can’t be trusted to implement their budget promises, says MP Libby Davies (Vancouver East).

In a question to the Prime Minister just before the budget announcement, Davies slammed the Prime Minister for his legacy of broken budget promises.

“This Prime Minister promised mayors infrastructure money – but didn’t deliver. He promised families childcare spaces – but didn’t come through. Promised to make fuel-efficient cars more affordable – then reneged. Promised police officers a raise – then took it away. He said he would protect consumers from ATM fees, but buckled under the pressure of the banks.

“Why should any Canadians have confidence in him now?”

Davies went on to question Mr. Harper’s commitment to his newfound outlook on spending. “Mr. Harper has shown nothing but contempt for the poor, the unemployed, and the vulnerable. Why should any Canadian have confidence in him to help the very people he has spent his political career leaving behind?”
