The missing and murdered women of Vancouver deserve an inquiryWhen it comes to considering the missing and murder women from the Downtown Eastside, these are the concerns: • Why did so many things go wrong? • Lack of trust for police that still keeps women from reporting violence. • What can we learn about solicitation laws and why they don't work? • Jurisdictional issues need to be addressed. • A necessary evaluation of any public program. • What can we learn about marginalized women and men?

Long gun registry

Thanks Libby for the call for an inquiry into the case of the missing women on the Downtown Eastside.

There is another issue on the table at the moment that affects women and all Canadians.

In 1989 14 women died in an event known as the Montreal Massacre.

This horrendous event provided much needed momentum for the gun registry in Canada.

Harper now wants to shut it down as you know.

I am very disspointed with the federal NDP's decision to allow a free vote on this bill.

I personally do not think that Canadians as a whole want to support a party that makes decisions by reading the polls. We will gain electoral success much sooner. I believe, if we act with principled leadership.

I know that some of the caucus feel personally threatended by electoral defeat by the irrational oppostion to the long gun registry in their ridings.

However, rather than pandering to this nonsense, it would be good to see these same MPs use this as an opportunity for education.

If they subsequently lose their seats, so be it. This was in fact the price paid by Tommmy Douglas when he introduced Medicare.

Would we have universal health care in Canada if he had listened to the fears and propaganda?

Let's show some courage!

Many thanks for your great work as always Libby!

Kind regards

Long Gun Registry

Thanks for what.
Libby Davies has ignored our people and wasted our tax-payer money by voting to keep a registry that's proven itself useless and troublesome. I will wait with eager intent to see that we are represented by someone who actualy cares about the freedom and rights of the Canadians in their district.

Long Gun Registry

I agree that we need to keep the long gun registry... It's a real populist move by the Conservatives, and an obviously desperate one, to attempt to toss out this important tool in law enforcement and pander to disgruntled gun-owning Canadians.

For a government that distributed a pamphlet getting "tough on crime" before the last federal election, the dismantling of the gun registry is but further proof that our government has no problem contradicting itself in order to scoop votes.
